Kaicumbay, Fly Hill, and Yupukari Uplifted by President Ali’s Vision for a Stronger Hinterland
Residents of several communities in Region Nine will receive a significant boost their quality of life as numerous projects get underway with the aim of enhancing infrastructure and social programmes for these Guyanese.
The initiative was announced by President Irfaan Ali will at this stage focus on the village of Yupukari and its satellite villages, Fly Hill and Kaicumbay.
The initiatives reflect a holistic strategy aimed at fostering sustainable development in the hinterland region, focusing on critical areas such as transportation, infrastructure, healthcare, housing, and employment. This comprehensive approach not only seeks to enhance the day-to-day lives of residents but also aims to empower communities through better resources and support systems, laying the groundwork for future growth and development.
To improve transportation accessibility, the administration will soon acquire two minibuses for Yupukari, facilitating easier movement for residents. A timber bridge will also be upgraded to a concrete structure, increasing safety and reliability for residents. There are also some planned road work which includes upgrades to the three-kilometre road from Katoka Junction which willenhance connectivity for the community.
Having recognised the long distances and the need for timely medical assistance for communities up to 70 kilometers from Lethem, an ambulance will be designated for use by the Yupukari community.
Planned housing initiatives include a sousing Scheme for Kaicumbay. This new housing scheme is in the planning stages, but is intended to provide more housing options for residents. Meanwhile, 516 households will be given rainwater harvesting tanks to address water security issues.
Meanwhile, over 70 Community Support Officers who were displaced under previous administration, have been reinstated, providing much-needed jobs in the community. Other employment opportunities for members of Community Police Groups will also be made available in the Pathway Workers Programme.
In terms of agricultural support, the PPP/C government has committed to providing one bag of fertilizer per cultivated acre.
